Valentine & Sons Ltd were better known for their postcards, but they also published a number of other items including small books in the early 1900s, and some 'book toys' possibly published around the 1930s.  Here is one of them.

The 'Book Toy'

Thank you to Deborah Bourke, Australia, for sending this book toy to me.  I appreciate the gesture and am pleased to now be able to share these photos of the book with others.

- This book measures 14.2 ins x 8.5 ins (so is much larger than most Valentine books for children).

-  It is No B609 in the Valentine 'Book Toy' series.

- The wheels spin, and there is a hole near the front of the radiator for string to pull the car with.

The style of the vehicles in the book suggests to me that the it might have been published around the 1920s.  The road signs on one of the pages are the style that were in use before the rectangular road signs with triangles on top were introduced in 1934.

This list of branches for Valentine & Sons given in the book may also provide a clue as to when this 'book toy' would have been produced.
