Lady Stair's Close

Tuck's "Oilette" series

Here is a postcard from the Raphael Tuck & Sons' "Oilette" Edinburgh series II (7322).

This card was sent through the post in 1906

Tuck's description on the back of this card reads:

"Lady Stair's Close.  On the right in the foreground is the house of Eleanor, Dowager, Countess of Stair, recently almost rebuilt by Lord Rosebery.

The large open (sic) close to the circular building on the left leads into the Lawnmarket, and in this building, which stands in Baxter's Close, Robert Burns once lodged."
