Broken Gravestones

Upper Photo

The symbols engraved on the broken gravestone in the upper photo include:

-   a skull and crossbones, reminders of the mortality of man

-  a horizontal hourglass, denoting a life cut short.

Lower Photo

The broken gravestone on the right in the lower photo is one of several in this graveyard that featured a head on top of the headstone at one side and a skull at the other side.
