Edinburgh Castle  -  from Johnston Terrace

From a drawing by James Drummond RSA.

Here is an engraving of Edinburgh Castle from The Castle Road (now named Johnston Terrace).  The buildings are very similar today, though it would be unusual to find carts or washing lines.

There is a  flight of stairs  through the gate to the left of the yard with the washing line.  The steps lead to the Castle Esplanade.  The Castle sits high on Castle hill  -  the furthest left of the buildings in this scene.

This view was the subject of several post cards in the early 1900s.
