The Royal Institution  -  Princes Street

Here is the Royal Institution, the first of two Art Galleries to be built at the Foot of the Mound, Princes Street.

This view is from a drawing by Shepherd published in 1829.  It shows the building as originally constructed, before the addition of Queen Victoria's statue.

A second gallery, The National Gallery was built behind the Royal Institution at the Foot of the Mound in the 1850s.
