Thank you to Douglas Roberts for allowing me to reproduce this photo.
Douglas, who used to live in Pilton Avenue, told me:

Street Party
"This Street Party was held for the Queen's Coronation in 1953.
The party was just for the
'little ones' - hence the absence of 'grown-ups' at the table - although
they were around supervising the proceedings!
This party is one of my earliest memories of
living in Pilton. I remember there were races around the two 'half
circles', as we called them. There was one on each side of the road
here.
There were very few cars on the streets then.
There is just one parked car in this photo, and a lady walking down the
middle of the road! This view looks up Pilton Avenue towards the
Bruce Peebles factory."

Douglas Roberts wrote to me again, after discussing this photo with a
Bruce Johnstone of Haddington, East Lothian, who had previously
contributed recollections of Pilton and Crewe Toll to the EdinPhoto
site.

"I was just five when this photo was
taken and at that time my daily world was almost wholly concentrated in
Pilton Avenue - between the Park and the Parkway.
Replying to Bruce Johnstone, Douglas added:
"You are perfectly correct in
identifying the dapper gentleman as Mr Boswall. I don't know if you
knew any of the others in the photo, but he is standing next to Mr
Llewellyn (from No.61 the avenue) and they are beside their wives.
The tall gent with his back to the camera is Mr Hitchcock (from
No.41 the avenue)."
