Princes Street Procession  1903

This view, taken from the Rutland Hotel, at Shandwick Place, close to the West End of Princes Street.

It looks down on the procession of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on their Royal Visit to Edinburgh  in May 1903, to commemorate King Edward's Coronation in London the previous year.

The card was presumably published very soon after the visit.  The copy above was posted from Edinburgh to Coldstream on 27 May 1903.

The procession in this view is approaching the West End of Princes Street.  The lines  cable car lines can be seen turning into Lothian Road in the foreground.

Royal Visit:  In May 1903, King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra rode through the decorated streets of Edinburgh to mark Edward's coronation in London the previous year
