Question

1.

Alex Blyth

Greendykes, Edinburgh

Alex Blyth asked a question about Lyndsay Montgomery, one of the contributors to the EdinPhoto web site.

Alex wrote

"I wonder if Lyndsay is related to Bill Montgomery (Monty) from Greendykes in the 1960s.

He was a dab hand at drawing cartoon characters. I was a mate of his for a while but lost touch when the prefabs were demolished."

"I really couldn't say a definite 'yes' or 'no'.

I was adopted at only six weeks old, and, although I think I know all the members of my father's family, it's possible that Bill, may be from another branch of it.

Family

My birth mother was called Elizabeth Stirrat, and I was born in a house on Caledonian Crescent, here in town.  My father was Norman Broadhurst, and he was in a band , I don't think he was from these parts - I think from London.  His last known address was at Wandsworth, London, in 1947.

My Grandmother was Marion Stirrat.  She worked in a restaurant, in what is now "The Doctor's" the pub at the corner of Forest Road.  My Grandfather's name was Mark.

More Details

"I'm hoping this might jog someone's mind, and that they will be able to tell me more about my family.

I haven't been lucky with my searches so far, but this site touches so many countries and so many people that I might find a trace yet."

Patricia Rand (née Tinney)

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Patricia Tinney, who used to live at 46 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh,  left messages in the EdinPhoto guest book,  hoping that some people might remember her and get in touch.

Patricia wrote:

Schools and Home

"I was born in 1942 and was a pupil of:

St Ignatius school, Glen Street

St Ignatius Annex, Lauriston Place

St Thomas of Aquin's, Chambers Street

then moved

-  to London

-  to Saskatchewan Canada in 1969
-  to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in 1984.

Neighbours

"I'd love to contact old friends and neighbours and visit Edinburgh again next year.

I had a lot of good neighbours in Lauriston Street.  Most were 2nd or 3rd generation Irish from Donegal.

-  The Paxtons:  Rose, Audrey and James

-  The Hanlons:  4 boys, 2 girls - football in the backgreen every summer weekend.

-  The MacPhersons:  Philomena

-  The Proudfoots

-  The Urquhart.

Long time, no see - but not forgotten.

School Friends - St Ignatius

"I remember:

-  Betty Cooney

-  Margaret Hah

-  Margaret Slattery

-  Veronica, who lost her budgie on exam day and burst into tears in the middle of a paper.

-  Mary Narrie, infamous for her exploits - great leadership that girl, especially into mischief - almost broke a leg jumping walls around the canal one day.

-  Michael, who came home from Kenya

-  Freddie, who was great at football

School Friends - St Thomas of Aquin's

"I remember:

Doreen Partridge

Helen Dalgleish

Sandra Stewart

   et al.

Where are they now?  When I look back, I miss those days.

Perhaps I will be able to link up with people i knew more than fifty years ago.  it's a long shot but you never know your luck."

Patricia Tinney and Helen Dalgleish

"I'd like to get in touch with Patricia Tinney.  I notice that she mentions Helen Dalgleish.

Helen was also my friend at St Thomas of Aquin's School.  She lived in Granton then.

I remember going to Pat's house one day after school and meeting her mother and grandmother

Helen and I were friends.  Her mother and my mother used to chat at the 'steamy'.
