Ramble on Victoria Day, 19 May

"Leaving on the London Express at quarter before eight o' clock.  Eyemouth is one of those extremely interesting fishing villages which stud the East coast.  This is one of the finest coast walks to be had in the district, and for the photographer is teeming with photographic views of cliffs, shores, &c."

“On the outing to Eyemouth, a motor car was in readiness at St Abbs and conveyed the Members to Coldingham.  The Members then motored to Reston and caught the evening train which arrived at Waverley punctually, which was remarkable for the North British Railway, especially as it was a holiday."

Will there be any Excursions in 1915?

Transactions of the EPS announced in May 1915:

"It has hitherto been the practice in the Spring and early Summer for members of the Society to spend one or two whole days and several half-days visiting places of photographic interest, but it has not been possible this Season, on account of the disturbed state of the country due to the war, to make any arrangements for these delightful excursions so highly appreciated in the past by a large  number of the members.

The Military authorities raise strong objection to cameras near any camp or position, and the Railway Companies have temporarily suspended all reduction of fares, while photographic plates and materials have risen so much in price that it requires some careful calculation and consideration to face a day’s outing with a camera.

Besides, so many members have joined His Majesty’s Forces, while others have taken up additional work in one way or another that the number of members with any leisure are entirely in the minority.

It is thought, however, that it might be possible to arrange for one half-day in June, and the places mentioned,  regarding which enquiry is being made, are the grounds of Arniston near Gorebridge, Newbattle, or Dalkeith, but a further announcement will be made in the “Transactions” for next month.

In the meantime members intending to be present should be considering ways and means in order that there may be as large a gathering as possible"

In fact two short outings, at low cost were arraned (below).

1915

Ramble on 12 June

by motor bus  -  fare 7d single

The grounds are very extensive and the number of “bits” worthy of a “plate” are sufficient to satiate the most capricious photographer

Members must be in their places fully fifteen minutes before the hour of leaving as there is no booking of seats beforehand.

Should any wish to travel by train they will meet the party at the Lion and Elephant Entrance to the grounds at Arniston  about
3-00 pm.  The distance is two miles and a bittock.

·       Arniston

1915
