As the procession approaches
the end of its circuit of Calton Hill, it is ambushed by the Red Men,
spirits from the underworld, symbolising chaos, mischief and lust.
The White Warrior women, five
of whom were played by men in 2007, overcome the Red Men (and women), and
the procession proceeds to centre of the hill where the Horned God is
ritually killed, then is resurrected as the Green Man, so marking the
official beginning of Summer.
