Adam Smith This statue of Adam
Smith, was placed on its plinth, beside the Mercat Cross, to the
east of St Giles Church in Edinburgh's Royal Mile, on June 30,
              2008.
Adam Smith lived in Edinburgh during the Scottish Enlightenment
and is buried in Edinburgh.  He was known as "the father of
              economics". |

Statues Here we see the statue
standing on the ground amongst the workers, with its head covered.
It is about to be lifted onto its plinth. The statue, which will
be 20 ft high on its plinth, is by Paisley-based sculptor, Sandy
              Stoddart.
This picture looks across the Royal Mile, past the statue of
Adam Smith, into the courtyard of the City Chambers, where the
statue of Alexander and Bucephalus can be seen.  This was
cast in 1883 and stood in St Andrew the middle of the road at St
Andrew Square, at the junction with George Street until 1916. |
