      £250,000, 20ft high statue to Adam Smith "the father or modern 
      economics" is to be unveiled in  Edinburgh in May 2008.   
      Adam Smith was born in Kirkcaldy in Fife and lived and worked in 
      Edinburgh. The 
      statue will be in Parliament Square, beside St Giles' Church.   
      The sculptor is Alexander Stoddart who also created the statue to David 
      Hume nearby, on the corner of Bank Street and the Royal Mile. The 
      unveiling will coincide with at 2-day economic conference in Edinburgh. 
      Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and Baroness Thatcher are to be invited to 
      the unveiling.
