Proposed Statue
2007
The One o' Clock Gun Association has drawn up
plans for a statue incorporating a life-size replica canon and a clock on
a stone base to be built for the Grassmarket.
This would commemorate the 150th anniversary of
the One 0' clock gun in 2011.
George Robinson, secretary of the One o' Clock
Gun Association said:
"We thought the Grassmarket needed a
centrepiece, and something that will really stand out and is very relevant
to its history.
If approved, then we will try to raise funds,
perhaps with the Grassmarket Traders' Association."
The association is also planning a series of
events to mark the anniversary. It is in discussion with the
organisers of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and hopes that it will be
possible for something relevant to be included in their program.
