Where and when might this photo have been taken?

George Blakey, Codsall, Wolverhampton, England, sent me this copy of a cabinet print.

George wrote:

Great Grandfather Robertson

"I attach a copy of a photo of my wife's grt.grt.grandfather William  James Fulton. We believe he was born in Glasgow in approx 1838 and died in the Durham area.

We  were wondering if you could identify where this photograph originated.

Unfortunately I have only got a photocopy of the original, so I do not know if there was anything printed on the back.
