Thank you to Archie Foley for sending me the photo above.

Archie wrote:

"This is a recently acquired carte de visite.

From research in directories and in maps I am pretty certain that this is 206 (now 286) High Street in Portobello, on the west corner of Bellfield Lane and the High Street.

Of course the massive building of the late 19th century has completely changed the appearance of the site, but the lane remains.

I have been trying to get a current photograph but there are too many parked cars and too much traffic."

Archie asks:

"Is that Mr Kyles or Mr Law standing outside the studio?"

Archie also sent this picture postcard of 286 High Street.  The photo was taken in 1909.  No 286, where  the Kyles & Law studio once stood,  is the building on the left in this picture, beside the narrow entrance to Bellfield Lane.
