Monopoly

London

Monopoly is a board game that involves throwing dice and travelling around the board, buying and renting properties.

Monopoly, initially based on locations in Atlantic City, has been sold by Parker Brothers in USA since 1934.  It has become the best selling board game in the world.

The British edition is based on locations in London.  It was first sold by Waddington's in 1936.  The board for the British edition includes:

-   one London railway station on each side of the board.

-   twenty-two London streets, spread around the board, beginning with the cheapest (Old Kent Road) and gradually increasing in price up to the most expensive (Mayfair).

I had wondered, while playing Monopoly, what some of these stations and streets might look like, so I took a walk around London a few times in the 1990s and took the photos above.  Please click on these thumbnail images to enlarge them.
