"This cottage was located on the
Pentland Road just east of the A-701/Pentland Road roundabout.
It is still there.
My wife's Great Grandfather, James
G. Cairns, lived here in the early-1900's. He was an engineer
who worked for the Water Department.
Either the Water Department
or the City owned the
cottage. It was was erected as quarters for the engineer
who maintained the pump.
I was told that there was a pumping
station adjacent to the cottage and that it pushed water from a
reservoir into the city. |

"I was over that way today. I
did not have chance to look for the cottage. However, I
found it on Google Street View, behind IKEA. It is now called
Craig Cottage.
It now has dormer windows, but it
certainly looks like the same cottage, and the location is as
described."

"I
went to search out the Water Dept cottage, as promissed earlier,
but sadly I was too late, and doubt if the cottage would have
been there in October either.
The cottage still appears on the
Google Street View photo taken in July 2008, but the site is now
part of a new Asda superstore, recently opened."
