Employment Note

John Donaldson Edward was born in Edinburgh in 1850.  Below is a note that he wrote in 1964.

This note reads:

1850.  John Edwards born May 8th 1850

1864.  Went to be a Gunmaker with
Mr MacNaughton.  My wages
for the first year were 2/6 [12.5p]
per week and a rise every
year for 7 years.  I was then
14 years of age.  I began
Tuesday 8th of May 1864.
