1844 - 1944
This leaflet celebrates the centenary of Newhaven
Primary School in 1944. Celebrations included a
performance of a 'Pageant
of Newhaven', looking at events in Newhaven since its founding
in 150.
The leaflet traces the history of education in Newhaven from
the 18th century when education was provided by The Ancient
Society of Free Fishermen to the century from 1844 when
education and other activities, including The Fisher Girls'
Choir, were provided by Newhaven School.
The leaflets includes advertisements for many
of the local shops and businesses, most now closed, with an
advert for Ye Olde Peacock Hotel (for Weddings, Dinners,
Suppers, Parties) on the back page.
