Edinburgh for sending me the photograph above taken on a Royal Blind
Asylum Brass Band outing.
The photograph was taken as the band crossed the Firth of Forth on
their return to Edinburgh. The Forth Rail Bridge is in the
background.
George wrote:

"I took
this photograph on an outing from Edinburgh to Kinghorn. The photo was
taken after the band had given a concert on the beach, around 1950."

"I was born in Newtongrange in 1945.
My father, James, was
Bandmaster with Newtongrange Brass Band, then he
moved to the Royal Blind Asylum Band at Gillespie
Crescent where I learned to play the cornet.
When the band finished,
I was solo cornet player The band finished due
to lack of blind persons."

The Boy in the Photo

the photo was not, in fact, himself.
