48th Company
"I was a member of the 48th
Boys' Brigade Company from 1965 until 1967. I lived in Broomhouse at
the time. Several of us travelled faithfully each week from
Broomhouse to be part of 'The 48th'." |
Captain Craig
"This photo,
showing the Company members in 1954 caught my
eye as I noticed Captain Craig, in the centre of the photo, who was still
Captain of the 48th when I was a member, and indeed was still there when I
left. I believe he was the oldest serving member
of the Boys' Brigade at the time that I moved on."

The Drill Hall
"The Drill Hall,
during my time, was in the Old Fishmarket Close,
a short way down on the left as you entered the close." |
Sunday School
"The Sunday School
building, which is still there was at the bottom of the close on the left
hand side. If you did not attend Sunday School Service then you made
yourself unavailable for selection to the football team the following
week. Needles to say we all attended faithfully as we had a very good team
at the time." |
Summer Camp
"I have lasting memories
are of Summer Camp at Millport, and the dodgy ferry
crossing from Largs to Millport." |

front row on the right-hand-side. I can name others in the photo,
including David Elgin who is in the middle row, 3rd from the right."

48th Edinburgh
Company
"I was a member of
the 48th Edinburgh Company and can confirm that the photo
above is of that company.
Captain Craig was indeed the Captain.
The other officers were Mr Mcdonald, Mr
Weir and Mr Hutchinson.
Apart from our drill hall and
Bible Class being held
in The Peoples Palace in Fleshmarket Close, we
also used Willie House in the Cowgate for Cookery and Gym to gain some of
badges."
