She organized the band.

Johnny Harrison

"The boy immediately behind Bessie Somerville is John(ny) Harrison.  He was in my year at school, as was Bill Blair."

John McKenzie

"The boy in the centre of the back row is John McKenzie.  He was in the same class as Bill Blair and myself.

The band started around 1949.  We played at the Sports Day in the summer.  I can remember playing the pipes with Bill at the Third Year Dance near the end of the year.

Incidentally neither John McKenzie or I were Bessie's favourite pupils, but when we started in the band things changed somewhat.

I'd be delighted if anybody who may remember me could make contact"

Other Bands

"I left school in January 1950, but carried on playing in bands for a few years afterIn fact when I started my National service in the RAF in 1955, I joined the RAF band and so avoided square bashing !!"
