Broughton Higher School
"I thought
that visitors to EdinPhoto
may be interested to see this photograph
that I bought. I
was amazed at the near perfect condition it was in. It looked like it was
taken yesterday not over a hundred years ago.
It is also, in my experience, unusual to find
a photograph with its cover intact, without which I probably wouldn't have
known it was taken at Broughton Higher School,
Edinburgh as the students aren't wearing any kind of uniform, school tie
or badge."
My Family
"Three generations
of my family have attended Broughton Primary School which is next to the
original Broughton High School building.
I went on to the new
Broughton Secondary School which was built some time in the 1960s
at Carrington Road.
The old school building, on the corner of
Broughton Road and McDonald Road, continued to
be used for other educational purposes and is still standing, unlike the
High school I attended at Carrington Road which has now been knocked down
and a new one built on the same site."
The Photo
"I don't know anyone
in this photograph, but maybe
you will recognise someone or have some memories of the School.
Is that a teacher with the class or the
Headmaster, John Watson as mentioned on the cover?"
