Sports
"One
final thought. Daniel Stewart's College placed emphasis on sports at
Inverleith and elsewhere.
My moment of glory arrived when the Relay Race
(Under 12) was run in 1945. I belonged to the Drumsheugh House and
won this medal:

Combined Cadet Force
"I was watching a BBC movie on iPlayer
today and was reminded of something we learned while in the Combined Cadet
Force at Daniel Stewart's College.
One of the elderly masters (Mr Davie Grant)
produced some photographic prints - World War I views from above,
which were projected onto
a screen. They showed the German barbed wire entanglements. These showed up
as shadows on the photos."

Bill attended Edinburgh University, served in
the Home Guard and later did National Service. He worked for the Ordnance
Survey, living in Wigan Lancs, and was based in Lancs, until he retired in
