"This photo was taken in 1939 at Stockbridge Fire
Station.
It shows the new recruits to Edinburgh's
Auxiliary Fire Service with their Edinburgh Fire Brigade, instructor James
Trotter, who lived in Stockbridge FS."

Auxiliary Fire Service
"The AFS was started in 1937 under the Civil Defence
Act, but was managed by its own system, so it had its own Chief Fire Officer
which I believe didn't go down well with Edinburgh's own Firemaster.
The AFS became part of the National Fire Service in
1941, and Edinburgh Fire Brigade's name was removed from the appliances."
James Trotter was a Sokeree man. He is the one
in the middle of this group, with the WW1 medal ribbons. He joined the
Brigade in 1914 and retired about 1947-8."
