Around 1952

"My father (also called George McBean) passed away a few years back, but he and his brother John McBean used to be members and supporters of the Sparta Boxing Club in the 1940s and 1950s.

After the war we lived in Duke Street, Leith.  Around 1952,  my father used to take me along to the boxing where he helped out. This was the era of Tommy McGuiness and of course Kenny Buchanan.

I believe that the photo above would have been taken in 1952, or possibly 1951.  The reason I know the date is because that's me in the front row, as the smallest person,  behind the large cup.  I think I was four at the time."
