My First Day at School
"This is my first day at Stockbridge
Primary School, Hamilton Place in 1958. I am the wee lassie with big bow
in her hair not looking at the camera on the right of the photo.
I remained there until 1963 when I moved to
Bellevue Secondary but unfortunately most of this class was split up
during those years due to the 'slum' clearances.
This virtually destroyed the community.
I remember that, as a child, your Granny, Auntie and Uncle, cousins and
pals were all around you. It is still one of my saddest memories saying
goodbye to my friends as they moved away, one by one."

My First Teacher
"I
remember Miss Craig. She was our first teacher, but I didn't like
her! She asked us what we liked to do and I replied that I liked
to knit.
She said I was making it up, but my Granny
had taught me to knit before I could even read."
Reading and Singing
"I loved:
-
Stockbridge School
-
The Library along the road, and
- The
Salvation Army citadel next door, where we sang songs and had great fun."
