Postcard Joppa esplanade and sands |
The Postcard Thank you to Dorothy Addison (née Jenkins), now living in Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Canada, for allowing me to reproduce this postcard of Joppa. Dorothy used to live above the store at the corner of Morton Street and Joppa Road in the 1940s. This photo must have been taken from close to her home. This postcard gives no publisher's name, but the number, PN4037, may be a good indication of the publisher. If you know which company published this card, please e-mail me, so that I can contact the publisher. Thank you. - Peter Stubbs: July 2, 2007 |
The View Many views of Joppa look to to the west, along the Promenade, beside the Firth of Forth, towards Portobello. This view also looks to the west, but along Joppa Road, leading to Portobello and the centre of Edinburgh. This photo was taken at a time when there were many more small petrol stations around Britain. Judging by the vehicles in this view, I would assume that the photograph was probably taken around the 1960s. |
