Grove Street
"I lived in Grove Street and have a
distinct memory of looking out of the window one summer - I
think in 1962 - and seeing elephants walking down Grove
Street!"
Elephants
"At that time St. Cuthbert's Dairy Stables
at the top of Grove Street must still have been just open, or at least
usable. I have found out that the Indian Army was at the
Tattoo for the first time in 1962.
I think the elephants were stabled in the
Dairy Stables. Can anyone confirm this memory? I think I have
seen a photo of the elephants but I can't find any trace of one."

Elephants
"I have done some more searching and
although the Indian Army were at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo one year,
I now think that the elephants I remember seeing in Edinburgh in the
1960s were probably from Billy Smart's Circus.
There is a photo on line of them coming
along Shandwick Place in 1966."
