The corner of Princes Street and Castle Street

Buildings

This corner of Princes Street has changed considerably over the half-century since Norward Ingles took his photograph in the early 1950s.

Most of the businesses have left the area.  The corner premises became a burger bar (Burger King) for several years, but this has now closed.

Streets

The police patrol man at the junction was replaced by traffic lights.  These operated for many years, until the early 2000s when, as part of Edinburgh's new Traffic Management Scheme, this end of Castle Street (leading out of the right-hand side of the picture)  became pedestrianised.

The junction of Castle Street and Princes Street is now closed to traffic.
