Here is an extract from the press release for this exhibition, issued by the National Galleries of Scotland:

"We are delighted to announce the opening of this magnificent exhibition, the first in our highly-anticipated 2008 Summer Season.

'Foto' explores the pioneering success of modernist photography in Austria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Hungary and Poland during a time of tremendous social and political upheaval.  The exhibition brings together masterworks by more than 100 photographers.

'Foto' has been organised by Matthew Witkovsky, Associate Curator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.

To coincide with the opening of the exhibition, Matthew will be presenting a lecture on the themes and ideas that 'Foto' presents.

This lecture takes place on Saturday 7 June between 10.30 and 11.30am in the Hawthornden Lecture Theatre at the National Gallery Complex."

The National Gallery Complex is at the foot of the Mound, Edinburgh.
