"I to worked for D. Brotchie &
Sons, Coal Merchants, in the 1970s,
based at Haymarket depot. I can honestly
say that those who worked for him were well looked after.
I was a
porter with his son-in-law
Don, but my fondest memories was portering with
wee Charlie Downie

Brotchie was a gent and I was sorry to leave his
employ, but the writing was on the wall for the coal industry with
smokeless zones and central heating having an impact on sales.
It's
the best job I ever had."
