Smallpox Vaccination
"In Edinburgh, back in the early-1940s,
we had a smallpox scare which resulted in mass vaccination.
I think we got done at the Royal Infirmary.
My
most vivid memory of this is that when we had it
done, we kids
had to wear a red ribbon round the sleeve of our coats so people could see
what arm we had done and therefore avoid knocking into us.
My sister and I wore our red ribbons with
pride."
