TV Quiz
'Try for Ten'
"In the
early 1960s, I
appeared on the TV quiz show:
'Try for
Ten'.
The
theme of the programme was:
- You
selected 3 envelopes from pigeon holes.
- Each
envelope contained 10 questions, giving a chance
to win up to £80. You took away the cash that you won with
your best attempt.
- You answered
'True' or
'False' to each of the
ten questions. For every
question you got right, you won £2.
Get all 10 correct you won the Jackpot which at my time was
£80.
-
In my three attempts,
I managed 7 correct, then 8, then
9, so I won the princely sum of £18.
-
The question I failed on was “Is the Condor a
bird that lives in the Andes?”
For some daft reason the word
Condor conjured up the tobacco advert and I answered
'False' missing out on £80;
about 6 weeks' wages then.
I wonder if anyone
else reading this page remembers the show, or
appeared on it." |
