Thank you to Allan
Dodds who wrote: |
1960s
"In the 1960s, I and a number of
my friends would visit Milne's bar on a Friday night. Also in
attendance were the likes of:
- Norman MacCaig
- Hugh McDiarmid
- Sorley McLean
- Ian Crichton
Smith
- George Mackay
Brown
- Sydney Goodsir
Smith
- Edwin Morgan
- Robert Garioch.
They always sat at their own table and
only Norman McCaig ever smiled across at me if I caught his eye.
What a collection of literary talent all in one room, and all in
one's own lifetime!" |
Painting
"A mutual friend, Sandy Moffat, then
an undergraduate at Edinburgh College of Art was also in
attendance. He later captured in oils the atmosphere of the day.
This painting is now in the National Galleries of Scotland
collection. It perfectly captures the
mood and the likenesses are excellent, although the fag smoke is
absent!
A copy of Sandy Moffat's painting can
be found on Flicker. Here is a link to it. The title
is: 'The
Poet's Pub Postcard, 1980'." |
