Shirley Thompson  (née Canale)

Ilkley, West Yorkshire, England

Here is a message posted in the EdinPhoto Guestbook by Shirley Canale Thompson.  I've added the message to this new page on the EdinPhoto web site

Note for Shirley and Others

I'd appreciate it if, from now on, you could send your messages direct to me by email, rather than post them in the EdinPhoto Guestbook which has been causing some problems for me and others recently.

If you send your messages to me by email, I'll then transfer them to the appropriate page on the EdinPhoto web site where I believe that they are likely to then be viewed by more people than might view the guestbook.

Thank you.

Update

Hi Shirley:

Thanks for your quick reply, agreeing to the above.  I think the new method of updating should work out well for all concerned.  It should be easy to find any messages posted, both from the 'Recent Updates' page and by searching according to topic on the EdinPhoto web site.

Any Fellow Pupils?

"I've had a walk down memory lane again on this site!

I wonder if there are any fellow pupils from St. Bernard's Primary School in Stockbridge out there.  My last class, before leaving for Flora Stevenson's School, was with Mrs Currie.

We are all in our mid-70s now, and I'd love to find someone with a school photo!

I had two brothers, Eddie and David, and we lived in Bedford Street.   I'm hoping that someone will reply.

Seasons greetings."

"Shirley:

I'm now 76.  I went to St. Bernard's School, round about the same time as you.

My teachers were:

-   Miss Horne and

-  Miss Turnbull who died while I was still there..

I stayed in Jamaica Street, then moved to Canada in 1969"

Teachers

"Hello Shirley:

My mother went to St Bernard's school school and then to Flora Stevenson's but long before you.  Her teacher was Mr Walker, who later became my headmaster at Royston primary.

My mother's name was Jeanie Finlay.  She lived in Dean Street. and would have been 102, if she had been alive when I was in Edinburgh in 2010.   I visited Stockbridge then and they were knocking St Bernard's school down then.

My first school was Stockbridge Primary and that still running strong."

"I've been trying to find someone who went to St Bernard’s Primary School in Stockbridge and was hopefully in my class.

My teacher when I left was Mrs Currie and the Head Master was Mr. Reddin (sp).  I started there during the war, circa 1943, and left around 1949/50. Unfortunately I lost a lot of pictures years ago, including old school photos, when I moved to Yorkshire and would love to have one to add to my family web site.

I find it hard to remember my old classmates' names as it was so long ago.  Perhaps someone might remember  some of  the pupils, including me, Shirley Canale ."
