OBITUARY
John Alexander Ross
1873-1959
"John Alexander Ross was born in Portsmouth, June 19, 1873 and died,
aged 85.
His
father, Horatio Serftenberg John Ross, was the eldest son of Captain
Horatio Ross of Rossie Castle, Forfarshire, the celebrated rifle shot
and sportsman.

Ross joined the 12th Middlesex (Civil Service Rifle Volunteers) as a
private in 1892. He served in South Africa with the CIV Mounted
Infantry, 1900, receiving the Queen's Medal and seven clasps.
He
joined 2nd Bn London Scottish on its formation and as a private acting
Captain was given command of A Coy, being gazetted Captain in September
1914.
He
was Personal Assistant to Major General i/c Administration, Aldershot
Command, in September 1917 and was appointed DAQMG, Dover Garrison in
May 1918 and promoted to the rank of Major.
He
was demobilised in April 1919."
