I received an email message in December 2004 from somebody who was a good friend of Alan Daiches in Edinburgh in the 1950s and 1960s.

I was very sorry to receive a message from Alan Daiches' daughter on 5 February 2006, telling me that Alan had died suddenly on 29 January 2006.
