Carte
de Visite (front and back)
The fashion on this carte de visite
appears (to me) to be 1860s style, but the back of the carte is late
19th century. Ovinius Davis set up his business in Glasgow in 1866
but did not reach Edinburgh until 1881.
Tissue paper was sometimes attached to
the backs of cartes de visite at the top and folded over the front to
protect the image. In this case remnants of the tissue paper can
be seen on the back.
