The
Imperial Arts Guild
or
The Imperial Artists' Guild |
The
Imperial Arts Guild appeared in the Edinburgh trade directories for
one year only - 1915.
The
company was not listed as photographers in this directory, but I have
heard of one photo bearing their name and address, 35, Cockburn Street, on
the back. [Andrew Martin]
I have also received a message about a carte de visite by Evans 47 High
Street, Hawick [from David Anderson] with a
printed paper sticker on the back giving the details below:
NOTE: Evans' studio was at 47 High Street, Hawick
1891-97

Does this suggest that The Imperial Artists' Guild made copies of other
photographers' work?

Question
What is known of the Imperial Artists' Guild? Did the company
publish copies of other
photographers' work? |

Thank you to Adrian Siswick for providing the additional information
about the photographer, Evans, whose carte de visite has the Imperial
Artists Guild sticker on the back. Adrian wrote:
T A Evans
T A. Evans was my great
grandfather and his wife was an Anderson.
In the family we have many
photographs taken by TA Evans, mainly of family.
In around 1897 he moved
to Bradford where he joined with a photographer named Thompson [I
think].... and later set up on his own.
The firm was still active
until well into the 1960s and was closed by his grandson at a time
when I was just taking up an interest in the subject of photography
which is my current profession.

family history link.

I would be greatful if you could pass on Mr Anderson's
address or perhaps forward this letter to him.
