In
November
1878, John Nicol, in his column, Notes from the North, in the
British Journal of Photography, referred to a photographer living near
Edinburgh, but did not name him.
Does anybody know who he might have been referring to? John Nicol
wrote of:
The Photographer
"... photographer I
saw a few days ago in a studio a few miles from Edinburgh.
He can hardly
expect much patronage during the winter months, and like wise
man, under the circumstances, he has two strings to his bow", the
second being that of a professional public entertainer - ... a
ventriloquist and a very clever illusionist he is."

Photography - 1 November 1878, p.520] |
John Nicol,
in his column, went on to describe ventriloquism and how other
photographers might consider it at quieter times of year! |
