Richard Arthur Rayner

1862-1941?

Richard Arthur Rayner was born in Edinburgh on 30 June 1862.

At the time of the 1881 Census, he was living at home with mother, three sisters and two lodgers.  His occupation was Bookseller's Apprentice.

He appears in the Edinburgh trade directories from 1895 until 1914 with his own business:

There was no further reference to RA Rayner's business in the Edinburgh trade directories after the outbreak of the First World War, but RA Rayner continued to be listed in the directories under his home address, which changed several times, until 1941.

Scotia Series Post Cards

Over 300 postcards, many described as Scotia Series were published by J B Whyte in the early 1900s under the name RAR-E [Richard Arthur Rayner - Edinburgh].  

As well as some of the more usual views of Edinburgh, the Scotia Series includes views of Queens Park and Arthur's Seat.

I also have a post card by RAR-E, published by R Mitchell & Sons, Clyde Street, Edinburgh, showing a view of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, as seen from Heriot's School.  This card was sold in aid of the Royal Infirmary.
