Leith Primary
School, in North Fort Street, designed by James Simpson, was
built in 1875.

The school later
became an Annexe when a new Fort Primary School was built across
the road in 1967-68.
The original
school was later used as a sports club.

George T Smith, British Columbia, commented:
"The Boxing Bags is hanging in a
classroom is a reminder that Leith spawned a lot of boxers.
Is there any connection with the school?"
I don't know if any of the Fort Primary School pupils (or
whether any of those who practiced their boxing in the sports club
held in the old school building) went on to become well known
boxers. Perhaps somebody else will know the answer to that.
