Salamander Street, Leith

Tramway Extensions

This is an extract  from one of a series of 'Plans and Sections: Edinburgh Corporation (Tramways etc)' produced by Engineer, A Horsburgh Campbell, under the Scottish Office Provisional  Order, Session 1924).

I chose to reproduce this one as I felt that it demonstrated the industrial nature of this part of Leith in the 1920s.

At the extreme left of this map there is commerce:

-  Exchange Buildings

-  3 Banks

The remainder of the area is almost entirely industry:

-  Biscuit Factory

-  Chemical Manure Works

-  Chemical Works

-  Goods & Mineral Railway Station and Yard

-  Lothian Works (What were they?)

-  Malthouses

-  Old Mills

-  Roperie and Sailcloth Manufactory

-  Slaughter Houses

-  Warehouses
