John Horsburgh

Portrait on White Opaque Glass

Thank you to Marie Burns, London, for allowing me to reproduce this portrait on white opaque glass.

Marie writes

"Here is a photograph on white opaque glass of someone who I think looks like Queen Victoria, painted by J Horsburgh in the year 1891, with a surround painted in oil.

It is approx 33 cm x 23 cm.  It belonged to my paternal grandmother who lived in Liverpool.

Quite simply, I am intrigued as to its history and how it came to be in my family."

If you have seen any similar portraits by John Horsburgh, or if you have any comments on this one, please e-mail me, then I'll pass on on you comments to Marie.

Thank you.    -  Peter Stubbs:  November 29, 2007.
