Postcard  -  Albany Series

Waverley Bridge

Farewell to Edinburgh

This postcard is one in the Albany Series.

The card was posted in Edinburgh on July 24 1911, with the simple message:  "Having a rare time here."

The event would have been the departure of King George V from Edinburgh, following his Royal Visit at the start of his reign.

The  coach and horses are turning from Waverley Bridge into Waverley Station, between two of the four large signs that read:

 "North British Railway Waverley Station".

Princes street runs along the top of the picture.  The smoke and steam from the trains in Waverley Station can be seen emerging through the station roof at the bottom left corner of the picture.
