The Coast
"This picture, I presume, is the
good fisherwives of Newhaven, (the fish sellers) collecting buckies.
In the early years of the war, we did the same thing along near
Silverknowes.
We would take a 'fire can' with
us plus another one to collect the buckies and boil them on the beach,
extracting the feed with a safety pin. Eventually it was banned in the
later 1940s, due to the sea being bespoiled with ink and oil etc."
The View
"We used to see the Yetts o'
Muckhart hills through our window in Ferry Road Gardens, but the artist
has them too far along the coast in my opinion."
