Mons Meg

Picture postcards first appeared in Britain in the 1890s, and became particularly popular in the early 1900s. 

However,  for this postcard, Valentines used one of their earlier negative, one that had been used for their series of views of Scotland, published either as loose photographs or as photographs mounted in albums.

This negative dates from 1885.  Presumably this view remained similar for the next two decades.
