1961
This photo was taken on
Kodachrome film by amateur photographer,
Charles W Cushman
(1896-1972) from the USA during his visit to Edinburgh
in 1961.
The photo was taken on June
18, 1961, looking down Salisbury Street towards Salisbury Crags in
Holyrood Park.
This photo was taken shortly before the homes in Salisbury Street were
demolished.
On seeing this photo and others taken by Charles W Cushman in
1961, Eric Gold wrote:
"What a
treat the photos are, especially the top of the brae in Arthur
Street. I remember the wee shop well and the pub next door.
It was called Hares Bar. The white building down the brae was a chip
shop."

"If
you look carefully at the Arthur Street photo, the old woman has got her fists
up (ha ha ha ha)"
