Location

VA Tech Base is a large engineering warehouse located in the south east corner of Leith Docks.  The entrance to the warehouse is from Bath Road, off Salamander Street.

This was a new-purpose built factory for making transformers.  It had a 400 tonne overhead crane.  The building began production in 2000, about 18 months after the company's previous transformer factory at East Pilton was destroyed in a fire in April 1999.

However, production of transformers at Leith Docks ended around 2005.  The last time that I saw inside this building was in February 2008.  The building was 'To Let' and was almost empty.
